Hanging Geranium Mix

1,950 KWD

Pelargonium peltatum Hanging Geranium Mix is the classic trailing geranium beloved worldwide for its cascading, waterfall effect in hanging baskets, window boxes, and balcony containers. Glossy, ivy-shaped fleshy leaves on trailing stems that can reach 60 to 90 cm produce abundant clusters of vibrant flowers in red, pink, coral, lavender, and white throughout the cool growing season. Native to South Africa, the ivy-leaved geranium is more heat and drought tolerant than upright zonal geraniums and performs as an outstanding cool-to-warm season annual in the Gulf — ideal for any container display where cascading color is desired.

Pelargonium peltatum Hanging Geranium Mix Seeds

(Ivy-Leaved Geranium / Trailing Geranium — Mixed Colors)

Important Note on Germination

Pelargonium peltatum seeds are notably more challenging to germinate than upright zonal geraniums (P. hortorum). Germination is slower — typically 10 to 30 days — more variable, and highly temperature sensitive. Consistent warm temperatures of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius are essential throughout the germination period. Do not attempt to germinate in cool or unheated conditions. Patience and careful moisture management are required for best results.

Pelargonium peltatum, commonly known as ivy-leaved geranium, trailing geranium, or cascading geranium, is one of the most widely cultivated ornamental trailing plants in the world. Native to South Africa, Pelargonium peltatum is a trailing, evergreen perennial with fleshy, glossy, bright green leaves 5 to 7 cm across, adorned with pointed lobes that resemble those of ivy, hence the common name.

Rounded clusters of single or double flowers in shades of red, pink, lavender, or white appear from spring through fall. This plant does particularly well in environments with cool nights and bright days.
Ivy geraniums are known for their glossy, ivy-like leaves and trailing stems that create a flowing, waterfall effect in containers. Flower clusters appear repeatedly, with colors that commonly include red, pink, coral, white, and bicolor. Compared to upright zonal geraniums, the habit is more relaxed and cascading, making it ideal for softening container edges.

Pelargonium peltatum will grow well in a frost-free environment in well-drained fertile neutral to alkaline soil, preferably in full sun but will tolerate some partial shade, in borders or containers. Irrigate moderately from spring to summer, allowing the compost to dry between waterings.
Ivy-leaved geraniums feature beautiful trailing and heavy-blooming plants that remain beautiful even under difficult growing conditions. They are tolerant of heat and humidity and perform very well in containers and window boxes.

In the Gulf context, Pelargonium peltatum performs as an outstanding cool-to-warm season annual. Its natural South African origin — coastal regions and forest margins with warm temperatures, well-drained soils, and alternating dry and moist periods — aligns closely with Kuwait’s garden conditions, particularly in containers where drainage and watering rhythm can be controlled. The trailing habit makes it the natural choice for hanging baskets on balconies, window boxes, and elevated containers where the cascading stems can be appreciated from below and at eye level throughout the long flowering season.

Seed Germination

  • Sow sparingly in pots or trays of good fine moist seed compost with added drainage at 1.5 mm depth.
  • Optimum germination temperature is 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.
  • Lower temperature will seriously reduce germination rates.
  • Germination can take from 3 to 21 days depending on conditions provided.
  • Direct Sow just under the surface of the soil and water in.
  • Keep continuously moist.
  • Temperature 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.
  • Germinates in 10 to 30 days.
  • For home gardeners: sow one or two seeds per cell or small pot in a moist, well-drained seed-starting mix.
  • Sow just below the surface — approximately 3 to 5 mm deep — and water in gently.
  • Maintain a consistent temperature of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius at all times.
  • Keep the medium consistently moist but never waterlogged.
  • Place in a warm sheltered location.
  • Do not place in cool conditions during germination.
  • Once germination occurs — which may take anywhere from 10 to 30 days — reduce watering slightly and move to a bright, warm location.
  • Prick out into individual 7 cm pots when seedlings are large enough to handle.

Growing Tips

  • Water deeply, then allow soil to dry slightly between waterings for best root health.
  • Remove spent flower clusters to encourage more blooms and keep plants looking tidy.
  • Fertilize every two weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season.
  • Deadhead spent flowers and pinch stems to encourage bushiness and avoid legginess.
  • Space plants 30 to 40 cm apart in containers.
  • For hanging baskets, plant 3 to 4 plants in a 30 cm basket for a full, flowering display by mid-season.
  • Pinch growing tips early to encourage lateral branching — this is the single most important step for maximizing the cascading, floriferous habit.
  • Avoid over-fertilizing with high nitrogen, which promotes foliage at the expense of flowers.
  • Will not tolerate unheated conditions in early spring.
  • In Kuwait, maintain consistent warmth and bright light for best performance throughout the season.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Sow indoors in warm protected nursery conditions: August through October, and again January through March.
  • Transplant to hanging baskets, containers, or window boxes: September through November and February through April.
  • Expected flowering: October through May, with continuous blooming under Kuwait’s warm conditions.
  • Pelargonium peltatum is more heat tolerant than upright zonal geraniums and will continue producing through Kuwait’s warm spring.
  • It will slow during the most extreme summer heat of June through August but can be maintained in sheltered, partially shaded outdoor positions or indoors as a houseplant through the summer and returned to full outdoor display in autumn.

Garden and Floral Uses

  • Ivy Geranium is a classic choice for cascading color, adding a soft, trailing look that instantly makes containers feel full and finished.
  • It is especially useful in hanging baskets and window boxes, where the stems spill naturally over the edge and keep blooming through the warm season.
  • With bright light and steady care, it stays lush and colorful for months, even in summer heat.
  • Ivy geraniums are superb for baskets, containers and window boxes, and wonderful for combination plantings.
  • In the Gulf garden, the Hanging Geranium Mix is the ideal choice for balcony hanging baskets and wall-mounted planters where its cascading stems create dramatic curtains of color visible from below.
  • Combine with upright zonal geraniums or Petunias as the central thriller element, with the trailing ivy geranium providing the classic spiller component in the thriller-filler-spiller container design.
  • The multi-color mix of red, pink, coral, lavender, and white creates naturally harmonious combinations without the need for careful color planning.
