Dahlia ‘Café au Lait’ – Creamy Mocha Dinnerplate Dahlia Tuber

Dahlia ‘Café au Lait’ is one of the most iconic and sought-after large-flowered dahlias, celebrated for its enormous blooms and uniquely sophisticated neutral coloring.
This Decorative Dahlia, often marketed as an informal decorative or Dinnerplate type, produces huge, fully double flowers with broad, softly layered petals.
The color is an elegant blend of creamy ivory, pale mocha, champagne, soft peach and blush pink, giving each bloom the distinctive café-latte appearance that inspired its name.
The exact color can vary naturally from bloom to bloom, with some flowers appearing creamier and others showing stronger blush, peach or mocha undertones.
Blooms typically reach approximately 20–27 cm across, while mature plants generally grow around 100–120 cm tall.
Its extraordinary flower size, subtle coloring and exceptional presence make Café au Lait a favorite for wedding flowers, cutting gardens and luxury floral design.

Growing in Kuwait

  • For Kuwait conditions, Dahlia ‘Café au Lait’ is best grown during the cooler growing season once extreme summer temperatures have declined.
  • A practical planting period is: October to November
  • Plant tubers approximately 10–15 cm deep, positioning the crown and growing eyes upward.
  • Avoid excessive watering immediately after planting. Once shoots emerge and active roots develop, gradually increase watering while maintaining excellent drainage.
  • Provide strong sunlight during the cooler months, with some protection from intense afternoon heat as temperatures rise toward the end of the season.
  • Because plants reach around 100–120 cm tall and carry exceptionally large flowers, staking or plant support is strongly recommended.
