Lisianthus Grandiflorum Arena III Clear Pink Seeds
(F1 Lisianthus — Group 3 Rose Pink Cut Flower)
Eustoma grandiflorum, known as Lisianthus or Prairie Gentian, is one of the most sought-after cut flowers in global floristry — valued for its extraordinary resemblance to garden roses and peonies, its exceptional vase life of 14–21 days, and the wide range of colors available in professional series. The Arena series is distinguished by its fully double, large, high–quality blooms held on strong and sturdy stems. Thick petals ensure excellent transportability, while large buds atop sprays enhance the appeal of each stem.
Arena III Pink produces rose-pink blooms on plants reaching 70–90 cm, belonging to Lisianthus Group 3 — the main-season flowering group. In professional lisianthus production, varieties are classified into groups 1 through 4 based on flowering time from sowing — Group 3 is the main production group widely used by commercial cut flower growers for its balance of earliness, stem quality, and flower size.
The Arena series introduces new colors every year, giving more choices for growers, florists and consumers, and is selected for its high quality and fully double flowers on strong and sturdy stems.Blooms are reminiscent of an antique tea rose — fully double flowers approximately 6–7 cm across.
The Arena series was chosen as a later-flowering Group 3 series that can be planted alongside an earlier Group 2 series for a staggered harvest. When planted at the same time, Arenas start to bloom approximately two weeks after Group 2 varieties, making them ideal for succession planting in cut flower programs.
Lisianthus is native to the prairies and open meadows of North America and northern Mexico, where it grows in warm, sunny, well-drained conditions. It is a plant of considerable technical complexity to produce from seed — requiring precise germination conditions, careful moisture management, adequate light, and consistent temperatures to avoid the common problem of rosetting (where plants fail to elongate and bolt to flower). For Gulf growers, protected cultivation in a temperature-controlled greenhouse or other environment is strongly recommended to achieve reliable results.

Plant Information
- Habit: Upright, well-branched
- Flower form: Fully double, multi-petalled
- Sun: Full sun
- Soil: Well-drained, high in organic matter, pH 6.5–6.8
- Water: Consistent moisture — do not allow to dry out; avoid waterlogging
- Spacing: 10–15 cm for cut flower production
Seed Germination — Read Carefully
- Seed form: Fine pelleted seeds — handle carefully; do not crush pellet
- Seed depth: Surface sow or very light vermiculite dusting — light required for germination
- Germination time: 20–25 days at 20–22°C
- Germination temperature: 20–22°C — do not exceed 25°C
- Pre-cooling option: After sowing and wetting the pellet, cover trays with plastic at 100% humidity and place in cold storage at 4–8°C for 4 weeks without light, then move to greenhouse to initiate germination.
- This pre-cooling treatment helps avoid rosetting.
- Sow pelleted seeds into deep 288-cell trays filled with fine, sterile, well-draining seed-starting mix at pH 6.5–6.8.
- Press pellets lightly onto the surface or cover with a very fine dusting of vermiculite — this helps maintain moisture around the pellet without blocking light. Water gently until the pellet material has fully broken down.
- Maintain 100% humidity by covering trays with plastic film or a propagation dome.
- Keep consistently moist at all times during germination — pelleted seeds must not dry out, as this will prevent pellet breakdown and block germination.
- Germination takes 20–25 days. Do not overwater once germination begins as damping off is a significant risk.
Growing Tips — Important
- Lisianthus is acknowledged as one of the most technically demanding cut flowers to grow from seed.
- The following guidelines are essential for success.
- Maintain consistent temperatures between 20–22°C throughout germination and early seedling development.
- Do not allow temperatures to exceed 25°C — high temperatures promote rosetting (a condition where the plant fails to elongate and locks into a non-flowering rosette stage).
- Inconsistent moisture before and around transplant stage is also a key trigger for rosetting.
- Grow seedlings on in full light conditions — low light levels promote bud blasting (the abortion of developing flower buds).
- Supplemental lighting is beneficial in low-light seasons.
- Transplant to final beds or containers approximately 12–13 weeks after sowing.
- Space 10–15 cm apart in well-drained, organic-matter-rich growing medium at pH 6.5–6.8. Apply a biological fungicide (such as Rootshield or equivalent) at planting to protect against root pathogens.
- For cut flower harvest, cut stems when one or more flowers on the stem are open.
Condition stems in clean water with a floral preservative at 5–8°C for several hours before arranging. - Lisianthus has an exceptional vase life of 14–21 days with proper conditioning — one of the longest-lasting cut flowers available.
- Consistent temperatures, excellent drainage, full light, and careful moisture management are the keys to success.
- Sow August for Gulf cool-season production with flowering from March–April.
Gulf Planting Season
- Best sowing time in the Gulf: August (indoors, protected environment)
- Transplanting: 12–13 weeks after sowing — January–February
- Expected flowering: March–May
- Note: Protected cultivation strongly recommended. Consistent temperature 20–22°C, full light, and careful moisture management are essential.
Cut Flower Harvesting Guide
- Harvest stage: When 1 or more flowers on the stem are open
- Conditioning: Re-cut stems; place in clean water with floral preservative at 5–8°C for 2–4 hours
- Vase life: 14–21 days with proper conditioning — exceptional longevity
- Tip: Remove first bud to encourage lateral buds to develop and flower together for a fuller stem
