Petunia Tidal Wave Silver F1
1,950 د.ك
Petunia Tidal Wave Silver F1 sports silvery-white blooms with dark purple centers and wispy purple veining — like the essence of moonlight. The first Tidal Wave variety to win an AAS award in 2002, it is also the recipient of the Fleuroselect Gold Medal for outstanding European performance. An incredibly vigorous, award-winning spreading petunia boasting masses of silvery-white flowers adorned with dark purple hearts — thanks to its spreading habit, this fast grower can wind around a fence to create an attractive flowering hedge, crawl along and over walls, make a gorgeous ground cover, or fill a large container as a patio showpiece.

Petunia Tidal Wave Silver F1 Seeds
Petunia x hybrida — Tidal Wave Series — PanAmerican Seed — 2002 AAS Winner & Fleuroselect Gold Medal)
Petunia Tidal Wave Silver F1 is the founding variety of the Tidal Wave Hedgiflora series — the original award winner that established the class and set the standard against which all subsequent Tidal Wave varieties, including Red Velour, are measured. Sporting silvery-white blooms with dark purple centers, Tidal Wave Silver is distinct — unlike other petunias, gardeners can decide the height of the mature plant.
Tidal Wave Silver can attain heights of 60–90 cm if spaced closely together at about 15 cm and given support such as a trellis. If plants are spaced 30 cm apart, the mounded hedge-like plants will reach 40–55 cm. Spaced 60 cm apart, plants spread up to 1.5 m wide as ground cover. Neither pinching nor pruning is needed for flowers all season.
The color of Tidal Wave Silver is more complex than the name suggests. Despite its name, it is more a very pale purple than silver — with darker purple veining throughout the petals. The blooms range from 5 cm across, and some are deeply blushed with purple while others are nearly pure white.
This natural variation within the color — where individual flowers shift between silvery white and soft lavender depending on light conditions, temperature, and the age of the bloom — is one of the variety’s most distinctive visual characteristics. In evening light and moonlight, the pale flowers appear to glow with a luminous quality that gives the garden a romantic, ethereal quality at dusk and into the night.
Noted for its outstandingly long flowering season and excellent rain resistance, Tidal Wave Silver is heat tolerant, attracts hummingbirds, and is terrific for spreading glamour in any garden. Tidal Wave Silver is slightly later to flower than other Tidal Wave colors, with a more dense and mounded plant habit — it exhibits high Botrytis tolerance, recovers quickly after rain, and resists lodging.
Silver is a perfect color for elegant garden accents or pairing with other colors — it makes a great moon garden choice. In combination plantings, the silvery-white and pale lavender tones of Tidal Wave Silver pair with exceptional versatility — it works as a neutral unifier alongside deep jewel tones like Red Velour, as a romantic companion alongside blush, cream, and rose-pink plantings, and as a standalone moonlight garden planting where its pale luminous flowers create a garden that comes alive at dusk. Germination Instructions
- Identical to Tidal Wave Red Velour.
- Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into the moist surface of good quality seed compost but do not cover — Tidal Wave Silver needs light to germinate.
- Maintain a soil temperature of 22–24°C.
- Germination takes 7–12 days.
- Place in a propagator or seal inside a plastic bag to maintain humidity until germination.
- Transplant to individual 8 cm pots once three to four true leaves have developed.
- Final spacing: 30–45 cm apart for hedge effect; 60 cm or more for ground cover effect.
- Note: Tidal Wave Silver is slightly later to flower than Red Velour — allow for this when planning planting schedules if growing both varieties together for simultaneous peak display.
- For Kuwait: sow indoors in air-conditioned conditions in September for transplanting in October–November.
Growing Tips
- Identical growing requirements to Tidal Wave Red Velour.
- Grow in full sun to part shade in rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil.
- Water consistently at soil level, feed with liquid fertilizer every two weeks throughout the season.
- No deadheading required — self-cleaning habit maintains continuous flowering automatically.
- Cut back by one third mid-season if plants become straggly to stimulate a fresh flush of growth. In hot climates, part shade is preferred — in Kuwait, afternoon shade from March onward extends the display season significantly.
- Plan spacing before transplanting — 30 cm for hedge, 60 cm for ground cover — as this decision determines the entire visual character of the planting from early in the season.
- Combination planting note: Tidal Wave Silver pairs beautifully with Tidal Wave Red Velour — growing them together at alternating positions creates a dramatic silver and deep red tapestry that is among the most impactful large-scale annual planting combinations available.
- In Kuwait’s cool-season garden, planting Silver and Red Velour together at 30 cm alternating spacing along a raised bed edge or garden border creates a combined flowering hedge of exceptional visual presence through the entire cool season.
Gulf Planting Season
- Indoor sowing (air-conditioned, surface sow): September to mid-October
- Transplant outdoors: mid-October to November
- Peak flowering season: November to March (note: slightly later to start than Red Velour)
- Extended season: continues into April with afternoon shade protection
- Note: Tidal Wave Silver is the ideal companion to Tidal Wave Red Velour in Kuwait’s cool-season garden — the two varieties share identical cultural requirements and thrive under the same conditions. When planted together, the silvery-white and pale
- lavender tones of Silver provide maximum contrast with the deep blood-red of Red Velour, creating a bi-color mass planting of exceptional visual drama. Silver’s slightly later flowering means the two varieties may peak at slightly different times — an advantage for maintaining a sustained display across the full cool season rather than a simultaneous peak. For moon gardens and evening garden areas where the luminous pale blooms are best appreciated — north-facing balcony corners, areas lit by outdoor lighting, or positions visible from indoor living spaces after dark — Tidal Wave Silver is the primary recommendation.
Garden Uses
- Tidal Wave Silver makes a great moon garden choice — perfect for elegant garden accents or pairing with other colors.
- It is the go-to when looking for fast garden color that works as a petunia hedge, vine, or groundcover — Tidal Wave does it all.
- These fast-filling plants spread out across big spaces, crawl along and over walls and fences, and are the largest and most vigorous in the Wave Petunia family with terrific recovery from rain.
- In Kuwait’s cool-season garden, the pale luminous flowers of Tidal Wave Silver provide an evening presence that warm-toned varieties cannot replicate.
- A row planted along the front edge of a dark-colored raised bed, or in white or terracotta containers placed where they are visible from an indoor seating area, creates a garden that performs its most beautiful role after sundown — the pale blooms catching any available light and appearing to float above the foliage in the dimness.
- Combined with Tidal Wave Red Velour in alternating positions, the contrast between the deep jewel red and the cool moonlit silver creates one of the most visually powerful seasonal plantings achievable in Kuwait’s cool garden months.
- The two varieties are regularly cited together by specialist growers as the definitive Tidal Wave combination — red and silver, bold and cool, the complementary contrast that the series was always building toward.
