Strawberry Tristan F1 is ABZ Seeds’ ornamental compact variety designed specifically for patio pot culture — bred for patio pots, it thrives in rich, evenly moist, well-drained potting soil and full sun, producing few to no runners like regular strawberries, making it possible to grow neatly in a pot to both decorate your patio and provide delicious fruit all summer long.

Both ornamental and edible, Tristan produces abundant clusters of five-petaled, hot magenta-pink flowers adorned with yellow centers from fall until early summer. They are followed by a rich harvest of small, bright red, highly aromatic, sugary sweet fruits. The intensity of aroma and sweetness in Tristan’s fruits is one of its most celebrated qualities — the small biconical berries pack a flavor punch well beyond their modest size, with a true old-fashioned strawberry perfume that larger commercial varieties rarely match.

The biconical, mid-size fruit in combination with the lovely deep rose flowers makes Tristan an attractive addition to hobby gardens. Seed Germination

Growing Tips

• After cold stratification, sow Tristan F1 seeds on the surface of a sterile, moist seed-starting compost at 20–21°C.

• Germination takes 2–3 weeks and can be variable — patience is essential.
• Avoid fertilizing until seedlings are established.
• Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, pot up carefully into individual small pots and grow on in full light at a minimum of 15°C. After 6–8 weeks, plants are ready for their final containers.
• Tristan is ideal in individual 9–12 cm pots for a compact, high-density display, or 3–4 plants together in a 25–30 cm decorative container or hanging basket.
• Plant in rich, well-drained potting mix.
• Keep the crown at or just above soil level. Water consistently at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry.
• Begin feeding every two weeks with a balanced strawberry fertilizer once flowering begins, switching to a higher potassium formula as fruits develop.
