Strawberry Estavana F1 Seeds

(High-Yield Summer Everbearing Strawberry)

Strawberry Estavana F1 is a professional-grade F1 hybrid from ABZ Seeds — the Dutch specialist strawberry breeding company that has spent over 25 years developing seed-propagated F1 hybrid strawberry varieties for global fresh market and garden applications. Estavana was developed specifically for the outdoor gutter cultivation segment, addressing the growing commercial demand for high-yielding, heat-tolerant, firm-fruited strawberries that perform reliably throughout the summer season.

Estavana is a strong everbearing variety specially developed for summer outdoor gutter cultivation. The vigorous yet compact plant can withstand the summer heat as experienced today, and the long trusses with strong continued flowering ensure production of beautiful, large and long-lasting strawberries throughout the entire harvest period.

In outdoor gutter trials conducted over three consecutive years, Estavana achieved higher yields than all other F1 hybrid strawberry varieties tested, demonstrating its exceptional productivity in summer growing conditions. Average fruit weight and percentage of Class I quality fruit were comparable to or higher than competing varieties. The fruits are attractively colored, firm, and carry a good shelf life — characteristics that make Estavana particularly well suited for retail supply and fresh market production.

Estavana has a regular, consistent production pattern throughout the summer season without production dips or relapse, providing growers and home gardeners with a reliable, steady supply of fruit across the full season rather than a concentrated early flush followed by decline.

The variety is named after Dutch handball international champion Estavana Polman, who officially baptized the variety at ABZ Seeds’ facility in Andijk, Holland in July 2021.

In Gulf conditions, Estavana’s heat tolerance makes it one of the most suitable strawberry varieties for protected spring-summer cultivation, and it also performs excellently as a cool-season outdoor crop from autumn through spring.

  • Ideal germination temperature: 18–22°C

Important

  • Cold Stratification Recommended: Place seeds in a sealed container in the refrigerator at 2–5°C for 3–4 weeks before sowing to improve germination rates and uniformity.
  • After stratification, allow seeds to acclimatize at room temperature for 24 hours before sowing.
  • Surface sow on moist, sterile seed-starting compost — seeds require light for germination.

Growing Tips

  • After cold stratification, sow Estavana F1 seeds on the surface of a sterile, moist seed-starting mix at 18–22°C. Press lightly into the surface without deep covering. Maintain consistent moisture throughout germination.
  • Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, pot up into individual pots and grow on in a bright, warm position. After 6–8 weeks from sowing, plants are ready for their final growing position.
  • Plant in rich, well-drained growing medium or soil.
  • Keep the crown at or just above the soil surface.
  • Water consistently using drip or base irrigation to keep foliage dry.
  • Feed every two weeks with a balanced strawberry fertilizer once flowering begins, switching to a higher-potassium formula as fruits develop.
  • Estavana’s exceptional heat tolerance makes it one of the few strawberry varieties capable of maintaining flowering and fruiting productivity during warmer months.
  • In Gulf conditions, this makes it suitable for extended cultivation beyond the standard cool season with appropriate shade management.
  • For best outdoor results in the Gulf, plant in autumn and allow the cool season to drive the primary productive period, with Estavana continuing to produce as temperatures rise into spring.
  • Harvest fruits promptly as they ripen to encourage continued production from the long trusses.
  • The firm fruit texture of Estavana gives it good handling characteristics and shelf life compared to softer varieties.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Best sowing time in the Gulf: July–August (after cold stratification)
  • Transplanting: September–October
  • Primary fruiting season: October–April
  • Extended heat-tolerant production: April–June (with shade management)
  • Indoor protected growing possible year-round.
