Growing Strawberry ‘Gasana’ F1 in Kuwait
- Grow ‘Gasana’ during Kuwait’s mild agricultural season. Plant outdoors from late September or October through February, after extreme summer temperatures have declined.
- Choose a position receiving approximately 6 hours of direct sunlight during winter. Morning sun with afternoon protection is preferable as temperatures rise in spring.
- Plant in fertile, well-drained growing media and position the crown level with the soil surface. Do not bury the crown, as excess moisture around it can cause rot. Keep the soil evenly moist but never continuously saturated.
- For container cultivation, use a pot at least 25–30 cm wide for one plant, with unrestricted drainage. Feed lightly with a balanced fertilizer during establishment, followed by a fertilizer formulated for flowering and fruiting plants when buds begin to appear.
- Pollinating insects help produce fuller and better-shaped strawberries. Where the plant is grown inside a screened greenhouse, gently pollinate open flowers using a soft brush.
- Although ‘Gasana’ is perennial, it should not be presented as tolerant of Kuwait’s exposed summer conditions. Protect it from extreme heat or move container-grown plants into a bright, cooled environment before summer.
