- Strawberry ‘Montana’ F1 is an everbearing ornamental strawberry distinguished by its exceptionally large, snow-white flowers. The medium-compact plants flower abundantly and produce medium-to-large, conical red strawberries with a fresh, sweet flavour.
- Combining impressive flowers with edible fruit, ‘Montana’ is an excellent choice for decorative patio containers, hanging baskets, balcony planters and raised beds. It’s neat habit makes it particularly useful where both ornamental value and a recurring strawberry harvest are desired.
Growing in Kuwait
- Plant ‘Montana’ outdoors during Kuwait’s cooler growing season, preferably from October to February. Provide at least six hours of direct sunlight in winter. As temperatures rise during spring, morning sunlight with protection from intense afternoon heat will help extend flowering and fruit production.
- Use a fertile, moisture-retentive but freely draining growing medium. Position the crown level with the soil surface: burying it may encourage crown rot, while planting it too high can expose and dry the roots.
- Water whenever the upper layer of soil begins to dry. Keep moisture reasonably consistent during flowering and fruit development, but never leave the container waterlogged. Apply a balanced fertiliser after establishment, then use a feed with moderate nitrogen and adequate potassium during flowering and fruiting.
- In screened greenhouses or enclosed growing areas, gently hand-pollinate the flowers to improve fruit shape and fruit set.
