  • Flowers and strawberries can appear together, creating an attractive display throughout the productive season.
  • The plant forms a compact central crown but develops long runners that may carry additional flowers and fruit. This cascading habit makes ‘Toscana’ particularly effective in hanging baskets, elevated containers and balcony planters.
  • The dark-red, juicy strawberries have a pleasant sweetness and characteristic strawberry aroma. While the fruit is fully edible, ‘Toscana’ is especially valuable as a dual-purpose plant combining decorative flowers with a home harvest.
  • ‘Toscana’ received the FleuroStar Award 2011/2012 for its visual impact.

Growing Strawberry ‘Toscana’ F1 in Kuwait

  • Grow ‘Toscana’ during Kuwait’s cooler agricultural season. Transplant seedlings outdoors from late September or October through February, after severe summer temperatures have declined.
  • Provide approximately 6 hours of direct sunlight during winter. Morning sun with afternoon protection is preferable as temperatures rise in spring, particularly for plants grown in hanging baskets.
  • Plant with the crown level with the surface of the growing medium. Do not bury the crown, as this increases the risk of rot. Maintain even moisture during flowering and fruit development while ensuring excellent drainage.
  • For one plant, use a container at least 25–30 cm wide. For the best cascading display, grow it in a hanging basket or elevated planter where the long flowering runners can hang freely. Larger baskets will maintain moisture and root temperature more effectively under Kuwait conditions.
  • Apply a balanced fertilizer during establishment, then use a complete fertilizer suitable for flowering and fruiting plants once buds appear. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can promote foliage and runners at the expense of flowering and fruiting.
  • If maximum fruit production is the priority, remove excess runners so the plant directs more energy toward the main crown. If ornamental impact is the priority, retain selected runners because they can produce additional flowers and strawberries.
