Discover the Dramatic Beauty of Celosia Flamingo Purple
Introducing Celosia Flamingo Purple seeds, a distinctive celosia variety prized for its productive and decorative foliage and late-season blooms. Unlike the more common “Pink Flamingo” celosia, ‘Flamingo Purple’ develops dense, shrub-like plants showcasing a bounty of dramatic, dark burgundy-and-green foliage. In late summer, these uniform, upright plants produce striking 2 to 5-inch magenta flower spikes held on dark red, thick, and sturdy stems. Its unique appearance adds a touch of tropical flair to cut flower arrangements.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Dramatic Dark Foliage: Enjoy the rich and contrasting dark burgundy and green leaves that provide season-long visual interest.
- Striking Magenta Flower Spikes: The vibrant magenta blooms appear in late summer, offering a burst of color when many other flowers are fading.
- Productive Foliage Plant: This variety is known for its abundant and decorative foliage production.
- Excellent Cut Flower with Tropical Flair: The sturdy stems and unique flower and foliage combination make it a standout in fresh and dried arrangements.
- Uniform and Well-Branched Plants: Expect consistent growth and a dense, shrub-like habit.
Growing Information:
Transplant Recommended: Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last expected frost into 72-cell flats or preferred seedling containers. Light is required for germination, so cover very lightly. Maintain a temperature of 70-80°F (21-27°C) and bottom water or mist lightly. Grow seedlings at 63-68°F (17-20°C). Harden off and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.
Direct Sow: In regions with long growing seasons, you can direct sow seeds outdoors 1/8 inch deep after the last frost.
Pinching: Pinching young plants (when 6-12 inches tall) is recommended to encourage branching and potentially increase the number of stems and flowers.
Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun in well-drained, moist, fertile soil high in organic matter, with a preferred pH of 6.0-7.0. Consistent moisture is important. Low temperatures and less than 12 hours of light can cause premature flowering.
Harvesting: For fresh cut flowers, harvest when the flower spikes are fully developed and the stems are firm at the base. For dried flowers, harvest at the same stage and hang upside down in a dark, well-ventilated location to dry.
