Even if you’re new to gardening, you’ll find ‘Hot Lips’ a rewarding and relatively low-maintenance plant to cultivate from seed. For best results, start seeds indoors in peat or coir pots about 6-8 weeks before you plan to transplant them outdoors. Maintain a soil temperature of 20-220°C (67-75°F) for the 15-20 day germination period.
When transplanting the seedlings, be sure to handle them gently to avoid disturbing the roots. Barely cover the seeds when sowing and transplant or thin seedlings to a spacing of 30-45cm (12-18″) apart to allow for ample growth.
