Grow Crunchy Parris Island Cos Romaine Lettuce
Discover the excellent qualities of Lettuce Romaine Parris Island Cos, a tall yet compact dark-green romaine variety that will bring crispness and sweetness to your salads. Its slightly curly leaves surround creamy-white hearts and prominent midribs that offer a satisfyingly crunchy and juicy texture.
This reliable romaine boasts good resistance to bolting, ensuring a longer harvest period, along with a delightfully crisp and sweet flavor. Furthermore, its high disease resistance makes it a dependable choice for any garden. Expect this variety to mature in approximately 80-83 days.
Lettuce is a hardy plant and can be sown directly into the garden as soon as the soil is workable in spring. Plant 3 seeds every 8 inches in rows spaced 8-12 inches apart, covering them lightly with about 1/8 inch of fine soil and gently firming. Alternatively, you can start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost and transplant seedlings outdoors.
Remember to thin young seedlings to one plant per 8-inch spacing. For a continuous supply of fresh romaine, sow seeds every 3 weeks throughout the growing season. While seeds can germinate in cool soil (as low as 40°F), avoid soil temperatures above 75-85°F for best results.
Ensure consistent moisture, especially during dry periods.
