Ignite Your Garden with Nasturtium Orchid Flame
Create a vibrant display with Nasturtium Orchid Flame (*Tropaeolum majus*), a unique variety boasting flame-licked petals of fiery crimson and sunny canary yellow. The orchid-shaped blooms truly live up to their name, adding a colorful conflagration to any garden. These compact plants reach a manageable size of just 12 inches tall and 10 inches wide, making them perfect for borders, containers, and small spaces.
Adding to their appeal, both the gorgeous petals and the saucer-shaped leaves are edible, offering a sizzling spicy flavor that can enhance salads and other dishes.
Expect sprouts to appear in 7-14 days with an ideal temperature range of 60-80°F. Sow seeds ½ to 1 inch deep, spacing plants 8-12 inches apart. Nasturtium Orchid Flame prefers full sun but will tolerate some light shade.
Ensure well-drained soil and avoid fertilizing or planting in overly rich soil, as this can encourage foliage growth over flowers.
These plants are fairly drought tolerant and will thrive in a range of soils, including low-fertility ones, as long as drainage is good. This variety is not frosting hardy.

Nasturtium Princess Of India is a superb dwarf selection of the Victorian heirloom ‘Empress of India’ — one of the most celebrated nasturtiums in horticultural history, first listed in Eastern North American seed catalogs in the 1880s and described in the 1884 Burpee’s catalogue as “the most important annual in recent introduction.” Princess of India refines the Empress lineage further: the same brilliant scarlet flowers over the same distinctive dark blue-green foliage, but on a more uniform, more compact plant of 20–25 cm. The deep red blooms are held well above the dark foliage — creating one of the most visually dramatic flower-to-foliage contrasts in the entire nasturtium genus. Fully edible flowers and leaves, outstanding companion plant value, and a depth of horticultural heritage that no other variety in this catalogue can claim.
