Petunia Grandiflora Prism Sunshine Seeds

Petunia grandiflora Prism Sunshine is an F1 hybrid bred by Floranova, widely recognized as a landmark variety in petunia breeding history. Before its introduction, stable and color-retaining yellow grandiflora petunias were not reliably available to gardeners. Prism Sunshine resolved this gap by delivering a genuinely creamy yellow bloom that holds its color throughout the entire season without fading or browning, a trait that made it immediately distinguished in professional trials worldwide.

The flowers are large, funnel-shaped, measuring 7–10 cm across, with a soft creamy yellow tone and subtle darker veining that adds gentle depth to the petal surface. Plants are compact, uniform, and early to flower, producing an abundance of blooms from the beginning of the season with no interruption. The bushy, well-branched habit makes this variety equally suited to pot production, bedding displays, and containers of all sizes.

Prism Sunshine holds both of the most prestigious international awards available to a new flower variety: the 1998 All-America Selections Bedding Plant Winner designation for outstanding performance in North American trials, and the Fleuroselect Gold Medal, the highest recognition awarded by the European organization of professional plant breeders, honoring this variety specifically for its earliness, floriferousness, and sustained garden performance.

Growing Tips

  • The seeds should be surface-sown onto moist, well-drained germination medium and pressed gently without covering, as petunia seeds require light for germination.
  • Maintain consistent moisture until germination is complete. Once seedlings are established, grow on at cooler temperatures of 12–15°C to preserve the compact habit, as higher temperatures can cause plants to stretch.
  • Pinch growing tips when plants reach approximately 15 cm to encourage denser branching and a fuller, more floriferous shape.
  • Feed every one to two weeks with a balanced flowering fertilizer throughout the season. Remove spent flowers regularly to maintain the clean, bright yellow display and support continuous blooming.
