Statice Limonium sinuatum QIS Lavender Seeds
(Statice — Cut and Dried Flower Series)
Limonium sinuatum QIS Lavender is part of the QIS series — Quality in Seed — developed by PanAmerican Seed as a professional improvement over standard statice varieties in uniformity, stem quality, floret size, and color reliability. The series is widely recommended by professional cut flower growers worldwide as the benchmark for statice production.
Lavender is one of the most popular and commercially versatile colors in the statice range, offering a soft, cool, blue-purple tone that sits between true blue and pale violet. This gentle, romantic hue complements almost every other flower color used in professional bouquet work, making it one of the most universally applicable statice varieties in both fresh and dried floral production. Its soft tone adds an airy lightness to mixed arrangements without competing with stronger focal flowers, a quality that makes it indispensable as a filler color in premium bouquet design.
The small, papery florets are produced in dense branching clusters along the upper portion of each stem, creating a cloud-like lavender mass with excellent visual texture. As with all QIS varieties, florets are non-shattering, remaining firmly attached to the stem throughout the vase life and retaining their soft lavender color with exceptional stability when dried. Stiff, self-supporting stems require no netting or staking in the field or tunnel.
In Gulf conditions, statice performs as a cool-season annual. Natural autumn and winter temperatures provide the vernalization period that promotes early and uniform flowering, making September–October the optimal sowing window for peak winter production.

Growing Tips
- Sow seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before intended transplanting date. Surface sow or cover very lightly as statice benefits from light during germination.
- Maintain even moisture at 20–22°C until germination is complete, ensuring good ventilation throughout the seedling stage to prevent fungal issues.
- Vernalization significantly improves and accelerates flowering in Limonium sinuatum. Exposing seedlings to temperatures of 2–10°C for 20–30 days after germination promotes earlier and more uniform flower initiation. In Gulf conditions, natural autumn and winter temperatures serve this purpose effectively when seeds are sown in September–October.
- Transplant when seedlings have developed several true leaves and conditions have cooled sufficiently. Space plants 30–40 cm apart in a sunny, well-drained position. Statice is highly tolerant of drought, salt spray, and poor soils, but consistent drainage is essential as it is sensitive to waterlogging and crown rot. Avoid overhead watering and keep foliage dry, particularly overnight.
- Feed with a balanced fertilizer every six weeks throughout the growing period. Stiff stems are naturally self-supporting and require no netting. For dried flower production, cut stems when approximately 75% of the florets along each stem are open.
- Hang upside down in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space for two to four weeks until fully dried.
