Tomato Akoya F1 Seeds
Tomato Akoya F1 is an exceptional and visually distinctive cocktail tomato variety that stands apart from conventional red or yellow tomatoes through its unique black fruit coloration and dramatic ripening sequence. From the moment Akoya begins producing fruit, the deep glossy black color is immediately noticeable, setting this variety apart as one of the most striking tomatoes available for home garden and container cultivation.
The ripening journey of Akoya is itself an ornamental feature. Fruits begin green, transition to a deep, glossy black as anthocyanins accumulate in the skin, and then ripen from the base upward — passing through orange before reaching the final deep red stage, all while the shoulders remain dramatically black. The dark black shoulders are packed full of anthocyanins, a natural antioxidant, giving Akoya a nutritional distinction alongside its visual one. The fully ripe fruit delivers exceptional flavor — rich, balanced, and characteristic of a high-quality cocktail tomato.
One exceptional trait of Akoya is its stay-green characteristic. Unlike many other tomato varieties that gradually yellow with age, the leaves of Akoya will remain a vibrant green throughout the plant’s life . This means the plant retains its fresh, healthy visual appearance from first planting through the end of the fruiting season — an important quality for patio and container display.
Akoya is a compact, determinate-type plant reaching just 45 cm in height, making it well suited to container growing, hanging baskets, patio pots, and windowsill cultivation. It carries very good tolerance to late blight — a significant practical advantage for home growers.
In Gulf conditions, Akoya performs as a cool season crop when grown outdoors, or as a year-round crop under protected indoor cultivation. (Black Cocktail Tomato)

Growing Tips
- Sow Akoya F1 seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before intended transplanting date.
- Sow approximately 5 mm deep in a good, free-draining, moist seed-starting mix.
- Place in a bright, warm location at 18–24°C or in a heated propagator.
Seeds germinate in 7–14 days. - Maintain consistent moisture throughout germination.
Once seedlings develop 2 true leaves, transplant into individual 7.5 cm pots and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15°C in full light. - When plants reach approximately 20 cm height, move into their final containers using fertile, well-drained potting mix.
- As a compact determinate variety, Akoya does not require the same intensive side-shooting as tall cordon varieties, though some trimming may be needed if plants become vigorous.
- A supporting cane may be useful to carry the weight of fruit trusses as they develop.
- Water consistently to keep compost evenly moist — irregular watering causes blossom end rot and fruit cracking.
- Feed weekly with a balanced tomato fertilizer once flowering begins, switching to a high-potassium formula as fruits develop.
- Harvest promptly when fruits reach their fully ripe red stage with black shoulders, as this encourages continued production.
In Gulf conditions, autumn sowing (August–September) for transplanting in October–November delivers the best cool-season outdoor crop from December through March.
