Grow Organic Yellow Crookneck Zucchini
Discover the delightful Zucchini Yellow Crookneck Organic (*Cucurbita pepo*), an old-time organic heirloom variety. These open-pollinated seeds produce creamy yellow fruits that grow to 13-15cm (5-6 inches) long and feature a distinctive curved neck and slightly warded skin.
As they mature, the fruits deepen to a darker, almost orange hue and develop a truly excellent flavor. The flesh is creamy white, sweet, and mild tasting. This open bush plant is particularly productive once nighttime temperatures warm up in the summer, often yielding abundantly starting in August.
This ancient variety was already cultivated in the Americas when Columbus arrived.
Direct sow or transplant in late May or early June once the soil is warm (optimal temperature 25-35°C). For transplants, start seeds indoors in the first two weeks of May. Sow seeds 2cm (1 inch) deep, spacing plants 45-60cm (18-24 inches) apart in rows 90-120cm (36-48 inches) apart.
Ensure full sun and grow in well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Harvest regularly when fruits are young to encourage continuous production.
Matures in approximately 75 days from transplant.

Zucchini Mix Leila, Soleil & Ismalia, the Kiepenkerl Zucchini Mix combines three coordinated F1 hybrid varieties in cultivation and harvest timing: golden-yellow ‘Soleil’ with a fine mild flavor, dark green ‘Leila’ with a mild spicy aroma, and firm-fleshed, fruity-sweet ‘Ismalia’. This zucchini blend offers varied flavors and is resistant to powdery mildew, suitable for outdoor areas, raised beds, and containers. The bushy plants are easy to harvest and add variety to the garden. In addition to the courgettes themselves, the flowers are also edible — providing decorative and tasty flowers alongside the fruit. All three varieties share identical growing requirements and harvest timing, allowing the gardener to produce three colors and three subtly different flavors from a single coordinated sowing operation.
