Anemone Rainbow Blue/White

Anemone Rainbow® Blue/White is a striking bicolor cultivar admired for its elegant contrast of deep violet-blue petals that gradually blend into crisp white around the flower’s dramatic black center. The large, silky blooms create a vibrant display in both the garden and floral arrangements.

This variety combines vigorous growth, uniform flowering, strong florist-grade stems, excellent productivity, and long-lasting blooms, making it an outstanding choice for professional cut flower production as well as sophisticated cool-season gardens and containers.

Rainbow Blue/White carries a single-petaled, open-faced bloom form — distinct from the fully double Fullstar series. The petals open crisp white and deepen toward a vibrant violet-blue base, framed by a black center, giving each bloom a bold two-tone effect against fine, fern-like foliage. Known in Europe as Rainbow ‘Blue’ and marketed in North America as Rainbow ‘Blueberry’ is noted for being long-flowering, very floriferous, and particularly well suited to pot culture.

Germination Instructions

  • Soak the Rainbow Blue/White corms in room-temperature water for 2 to 6 hours before planting, allowing enough room in the soaking container for the corms to expand as they rehydrate.
  • Choose a location with well-draining soil, as corms are prone to rot in waterlogged conditions. Plant corms 5–7 cm deep, spacing 10–15 cm apart, in full sun to partial shade.
  • Corms typically sprout within several weeks and reach flowering in about 10–12 weeks under favorable cool-season temperatures.
  • In Kuwait, plant corms directly outdoors from mid-September through November, once daytime temperatures begin to moderate from summer heat.

Growing Tips

  • Rainbow Blue/White thrives in well-drained soil in a sunny to lightly shaded position, and is notably tolerant of container culture, making it a practical choice for raised beds and pots in Gulf gardens where soil conditions can be more closely controlled.
  • Water consistently but moderately, avoiding standing water around the corms.
  • Deadhead spent blooms to prolong the flowering period, which growers note is unusually extended and floriferous for this variety compared to standard anemone types.
  • Allow foliage to yellow and die back naturally before reducing water, letting the corm enter dormancy for the season.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Plant corms outdoors: Mid-September through November, once temperatures begin to moderate
  • Soak: 2–6 hours before planting
  • Days to sprout: Within several weeks of planting
  • Days to flower: Approximately 10–12 weeks from planting — flowering from December through March for autumn-planted corms
  • Notable trait: Exceptionally floriferous with an extended flowering window compared to standard anemone varieties, and well suited to pot and container culture — a practical advantage for Kuwait’s raised-bed growing systems
  • Lift and store corms: After foliage dies back naturally — remove from soil, ventilate, and store in a cool, dry location if not immediately replanted
  • Note: Rainbow Blue/White’s tolerance for container culture and its extended bloom period make it a strong candidate for succession planting across Kuwait’s October to March season, offering continuous cut-flower production alongside earlier and later Ranunculus and Anemone plantings already established in this catalogue.

Companion Planting

  • Rainbow Blue/White’s crisp white-to-violet-blue bicolor pairs naturally with Ranunculus asiaticus, which shares similar corm planting depth and cool-season timing, creating a coordinated bulb display through Kuwait’s winter months.
  • Its compact, container-friendly habit also complements taller companions such as Antirrhinum majus, which provide vertical structure above the anemone’s low, spreading mound, and low, silvery-foliaged herbs such as Thymus vulgaris along bed edges, which echo the cool tone of the flower’s violet-blue base.

Garden & Floristry Uses

  • Rainbow® Blue/White is an excellent choice for premium cut flower production, wedding bouquets, luxury floral arrangements, patio containers, ornamental borders, collector gardens, and elegant cool-season landscapes.
  • Its striking bi-color flowers and dramatic black center provide exceptional visual contrast, making it one of the most distinctive cultivars in the Rainbow® collection.
