Ranunculus Elegance Clementine

(Ranunculus asiaticus — Elegance® Series — Italian Premium Breeding)

Brighten Your Garden with Ranunculus Elegance Clementine Corms

Ranunculus Elegance® Clementine belongs to the renowned Italian Elegance® breeding collection, developed specifically for professional floriculture and premium cut flower production. Unlike conventional Ranunculus asiaticus cultivars, the Elegance® series has been selected for increased productivity, stronger stems, larger flowers, and improved adaptability across a wide range of growing conditions.

Clementine is distinguished by its vibrant mandarin-orange flowers, inspired by the color of the citrus fruit from which it takes its name. The blooms are fully double, producing numerous densely layered petals that create a luxurious, rounded flower with exceptional visual impact. Some growers describe the petals as displaying subtle warm orange-pink highlights depending on light intensity and flower maturity, giving the blooms additional depth and character.

One of the defining characteristics of the Elegance® series is its superior flowering performance. Under suitable cultivation, plants produce long, sturdy stems ideal for professional harvesting and floral design. Continuous removal of spent flowers encourages further blooming, extending the display period throughout the season.

The improved Italian genetics also provide noticeably larger and fuller flowers than conventional ranunculus cultivars while maintaining excellent vase life after cutting. Under favorable production conditions, plants begin flowering approximately eight weeks after planting in mild climates, with flowering continuing for several months. Mature plants may produce up to four flowers during the first three months and as many as twelve flowers over six months under commercial growing conditions.

Elegance® Clementine combines vibrant color, strong stems, abundant flowering, and reliable garden performance, making it equally suitable for premium landscape displays, patio containers, and professional cut flower production.

Plant Information

  • Height: 30–40 cm
  • Flower Color: Mandarin Orange
  • Flower Form: Fully Double
  • Light Requirements: Full sun to light partial shade
  • Planting Depth: 5–6 cm
  • Corm Spacing: Approximately 10 cm

Germination Instructions

  • Before planting, soak your Elegance Clementine ranunculus corms in room-temperature water for 4–6 hours.
  • Let a little water trickle into the soaking bowl to increase the oxygen in the water.
  • After soaking, the corms can either be planted directly into the ground or pre-sprouted inside.
  • For pre-sprouting, place the corms in flats with drainage holes, cover the corms lightly in moist soil, store at 45°F (7°C), and check on them daily.
  • Plant the corms claws-down at a depth of 5 cm, spacing 10–15 cm apart, in good, well-draining soil enriched with compost.
  • Do not water immediately after planting — wait until the first shoots emerge above soil level before beginning regular watering, as overwatering dormant corms is the most common cause of rot.
  • Plants will flower about 90 days after planting.
  • For floral arrangements, cut stems for bouquet making when the buds are just starting to show color for the longest vase life.
  • In Kuwait, plant corms directly outdoors in October once temperatures begin to moderate.
  • The confirmed warmer-temperature tolerance of the Elegance series means it can continue in production into March and early April as conditions warm — potentially extending the productive window by 2–3 weeks compared to standard ranunculus

Growing Tips

  • Elegance Clementine ranunculus like good, well-draining soil. Enrich with compost for healthy plants and make sure the roots are never too wet.
  • Water consistently once growth is established, keeping soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
  • They do not like extreme temperatures (high or low) so make sure they are in a sheltered position.
  • Feed lightly with a balanced fertilizer once foliage is well developed and continue through the flowering period.
  • The warmer-temperature tolerance of the Elegance series is a specific cultivation advantage in Kuwait — where standard ranunculus varieties decline rapidly as March temperatures rise, Clementin continues producing longer, making it the most practical ranunculus variety for extending the cool-season cutting garden into the warmer transition months.
  • Deadhead spent stems at ground level to encourage continued stem production from the established corm.
  • After flowering finishes and foliage begins to yellow naturally, allow the plant to die back fully before lifting the corms for storage in a cool, dark, dry location.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Plant corms outdoors: October, once temperatures begin to moderate
  • Pre-sprouting (optional): Pre-sprout indoors at 7°C for 2–3 weeks before outdoor planting
  • Flowering: Approximately 90 days after planting — January through March for October-planted corms
  • Extended season advantage: Confirmed warmer-temperature tolerance extends productive window into March and early April — 2–3 weeks longer than standard ranunculus varieties
  • Lift and store corms: After foliage dies back naturally in late spring, before summer heat arrives

Companion Planting

  • Clementin is primarily grown for its outstanding ornamental and cut flower value. In the cool-season garden, the warm blood orange to tangerine tones of Clementin combine most effectively with companions that either reinforce or contrast its warm citrus character.
  • Deep blue or purple anemones provide the strongest complementary contrast — blue and orange are natural complementary colors on the color wheel, and the combination creates an arrangement of exceptional visual impact.
  • White lisianthus or white cosmos alongside Clementin allows the orange to read at its most vibrant without color competition.
  • Pale yellow or butter-cream snapdragons share the warm tonal register of Clementin and extend the warm palette gracefully.
  • Dusty miller’s silver-grey foliage intensifies the orange of Clementin while providing a neutral ground that prevents the warm tones from overwhelming the composition.
  • In the cutting garden, Clementin pairs particularly effectively with the white of Montenvers® and the deep maroon of Perigord® — the orange, white, and near-black combination providing a complete and visually sophisticated warm-cool tricolor composition.

Garden & Floristry Uses

  • Elegance® Clementine is an outstanding cultivar for professional cut flower production, mixed borders, patio containers, and ornamental gardens.
  • Its large fully double mandarin-orange flowers, strong stems, and excellent vase life make it an exceptional choice for wedding bouquets, premium floral arrangements, spring garden displays, and luxury landscape plantings.
