Germination Instructions
- Anemone Mistral Tigre Wine corms require soaking before planting.
- Soak the corms in water for 6–12 hours to rehydrate them.
- The corms are small, dry, and knobbly — the orientation of anemone corms can be difficult to determine.
- Plant them pointed side down in well-draining soil, 5–7 cm deep and 10–20 cm apart.
- If the pointed side cannot be identified, plant on the side — the growing point will orient itself upward naturally.
- Pre-sprouting the corms at 7°C in barely moist soil can help them bloom a few weeks earlier.
- After transplanting to the final growing position, allow the plants a week or two at around 18°C, then reduce to cooler conditions of around 10°C nights and 15–18°C days to initiate bud formation.
- Plants will flower approximately 90–150 days from planting depending on conditions.
- It is suggested that the flowers should be cut early in the morning, checking the stem and the corolla of the petals of each flower are well formed.
- In Kuwait, plant corms directly outdoors from mid-September to October once temperatures begin to moderate from summer heat.
Growing Tips
- The plants of the Mistral line are the result of a selection featuring special colors, with early flowering and high productivity.
Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. - For cut flower use, it is suggested that the flowers should be cut early in the morning, checking the stem and the corolla of the petals of each flower are well formed.
- The irregular spontaneous stripe pattern of Tigre Wine — which varies between individual blooms — is best appreciated up close, where the variation in stripe width, intensity, and distribution across individual petals becomes visible.
- In Kuwait’s cool winter light, the contrast between the white petal base and the wine-red to burgundy stripe markings is at its most vivid — the lower sun angle and softer diffused light of December through February providing ideal conditions for the full bicolor stripe character to register clearly.
- The black staminal center provides a constant visual anchor across all blooms regardless of stripe variation, unifying the planting visually even where individual flowers express the stripe pattern differently.
- Remove spent flowers to encourage continued production from the established corm. As with all Mistral anemones, flowers will continue producing until temperatures routinely exceed 21°C.
Gulf Planting Season
- Plant corms outdoors: Mid-September to October, once temperatures begin to moderate from summer heat
- Pre-sprouting (recommended): Pre-sprout at 7°C in barely moist soil before outdoor planting
- Days to flowering: 90–150 days from planting depending on conditions and temperature — January through February for mid-September-planted corms
- Flowering continues: Until temperatures routinely exceed 21°C — potentially March in Kuwait
- Lift and store corms: After foliage dies back naturally in late spring, before summer heat arrives
- Productivity timeline: 3–5 flowers from 3 months; maximum of 15 flowers in 8–12 months — the full productivity potential of Tigre Wine is realized across multiple months of the cool season rather than in a single flush
- Note: Mistral Tigre Wine’s confirmed early flowering characteristic means that mid-September-planted corms in Kuwait can be expected to begin producing flowers from December onward, with the maximum 15-flower-per-corm productivity reached progressively across the full cool season through March.
- The irregular spontaneous tiger-stripe pattern — which varies between individual blooms — means that a larger number of corms planted in the same bed will present greater visual variety and complexity than a small single-corm planting; a group of 5–10 Tigre Wine corms creates a composition of considerable spontaneous bicolor interest where no two blooms in the planting are identical.
- As with all Mistral anemones, the day-length neutral characteristic means that flowering is triggered by temperature rather than day length — the cool nights of November onward in Kuwait provide the temperature drop needed to initiate bud formation regardless of the available daylight hours.
Companion Planting
- Mistral Tigre Wine is primarily grown for its outstanding ornamental and cut flower value.
- In the cool-season garden, the white-with-purple-and-wine-stripe character of Tigre Wine creates its most dramatic visual impact when positioned alongside companions that either isolate the bicolor stripe pattern or echo its color elements.
- Pure white anemones or white lisianthus planted alongside Tigre Wine allow the stripe pattern to read at maximum clarity — the white companion blooms highlighting the white base of Tigre Wine while the stripe markings appear as the only color accent in the composition.
- Deep purple companions such as Anemone Mistral Plus Grape provide a tonal connection to the purple stripe tone of Tigre Wine while offering the solid-color contrast that makes the striped variety stand out as more complex by comparison.
- Silver-leaved dusty miller provides a neutral metallic backdrop that intensifies both the white base and the wine-red stripe markings simultaneously.
- In the cutting garden, Tigre Wine combines with purpose alongside the Elegance® Bianco Striato ranunculus — both varieties sharing the white-base-with-darker-marking Picotee/striped patterning, creating an arrangement where two very different flower forms — open-faced single anemone and densely doubled ranunculus — share a visual language of white-with-dark-markings that gives the combined composition unexpected coherence.
Garden & Floristry Uses
- Anemone Mistral Tigre Wine is an outstanding choice for premium cut flower production, luxury floral arrangements, wedding bouquets, collector gardens, patio containers, ornamental borders, and elegant landscape planting.
- Its unique striped wine-red flowers ensure that every stem becomes a distinctive focal point in bouquets and sophisticated floral designs.
