(Anemone coronaria — Levante® Series)
Add Rich Sophistication with Anemone Levante Wine Bulbs
Anemone Levante® Wine belongs to the prestigious Levante® breeding program, one of Italy’s leading breeding collections developed specifically for premium cut flower production. The Levante® series is renowned for producing vigorous, uniform plants with long, strong stems, large flowers, and exceptional garden performance.
Levante® Wine produces elegant single flowers in deep wine-red to burgundy tones surrounding a dramatic black central eye. The silky petals create a rich velvety appearance that contrasts beautifully with the dark center, giving each bloom remarkable depth and sophistication. Its intense coloration makes it one of the most striking cultivars within the Levante® collection.
Highly valued by professional growers, florists, and collectors, Levante® Wine combines excellent productivity, strong stems, abundant flowering, and long-lasting blooms, making it an outstanding choice for premium floral arrangements, luxury bouquets, and sophisticated cool-season gardens.

Germination Instructions
- Before planting, soak your Levante® Wine anemone corms in room-temperature water for 3–4 hours — shorter than the 6–12 hours required for Levante® series corms.
- Let a little water trickle into the soaking bowl to increase the oxygen in the water.
- After soaking, the corms can either be planted directly into the ground or pre-sprouted inside. For pre-sprouting, place the corms in flats with drainage holes, cover the corms lightly in moist soil, store at 7°C (45°F), and check on them daily.
- Plant corms with the pointed side down in well-draining, slightly acidic soil, 5–7 cm deep, spacing 10–15 cm apart. If the pointed side cannot be identified, plant on the side — the growing point will orient itself naturally.
- Keep soil temperature below 15°C during the root growth phase.
- For floral arrangements, cut stems for bouquet making when the buds are just starting to show color for the longest vase life.
- Cut the stems on the diagonal for best hydration — Levante® anemones are heavy drinkers, and vase life increases with fresh water daily.
- Keep cut flowers away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- In Kuwait, plant corms directly outdoors in mid-September to October once temperatures begin to moderate.
Growing Tips
- Levante® Wine grows well in the garden, in pots, or in a cool greenhouse, in sunny or partial shade positions.
- Not fully winter hardy but tolerates light frost down to -5°C. Corms can be stored after flowering and replanted for multiple seasons.
- Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. For cut flowers, cut stems on the diagonal for best hydration and provide fresh water daily.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources after cutting to maximize the 10+ day vase life.
- The dark wine-red fully doubled form of Levante® Wine presents its deepest, richest color character in the cooler, diffused light of Kuwait’s winter months of December through February — the lower sun angle and soft winter light allowing the full depth of the dark wine-red and the three-dimensional petal layering to be perceived at their most dramatic.
- The subtle perfume that distinguishes Levante® Wine from other Levante® colors makes it particularly rewarding for container growing in a sheltered position where the fragrance can be appreciated at close range.
- The confirmed attraction of butterflies and bees makes Levante® Wine a valuable addition to pollinator-friendly cool-season plantings alongside other open and semi-open flowering companions.
Gulf Planting Season
- Plant corms outdoors: Mid-September to October, once temperatures begin to moderate
- Soil temperature during root growth: Keep below 15°C — cool start essential
- Days to flowering: Approximately 90 days from planting
- Flowering: December through March for mid-September-planted corms
- Fragrance appreciation: Most pronounced in still air of cooler evenings during December–February cool season
- Flowering continues: Until temperatures routinely exceed 21°C
- Lift and store corms: After foliage dies back naturally — confirmed perennial, corms can be replanted in subsequent seasons
- Note: Levante® Wine is one of the latest releases in the Levante® series — newer than the original four base colors (Blu, Rosso, Fuchsia, Bianco) — and represents the continued expansion of the series’ color palette by Biancheri Creazioni beyond its initial launch.
- In Kuwait’s cool-season cutting garden, the spectacular dark wine-red fully doubled blooms of Levante® Wine provide the darkest available color in the entire Levante® range, filling the dark dramatic register in cool-season arrangements and bouquets that the lighter Levante® colors cannot occupy.
- The confirmed subtle perfume — a characteristic does not present in all Levante® colors — is most perceptible in the still air of cooler evenings during Kuwait’s December through February cool season, making Levante® Wine the most sensorially complete variety in the Levante® series for close-range garden and container display.
- For gardeners planting the complete Levante® color range, Levante® Wine is planted on the same October schedule and cared for identically to the original four base colors — one care programme covers the entire extended Levante® planting.
Companion Planting
- Levante® Wine is primarily grown for its outstanding ornamental and cut flower value as the darkest and most dramatically colored variety in the Levante® series.
- In the cool-season garden, the spectacular dark wine-red fully doubled blooms of Levante® Wine create their strongest visual impact when positioned alongside companions that either isolate the dark color or provide strong tonal contrast.
- Pure white companions — white lisianthus, white Levante® Bianco from the same series, or white snapdragons — provide the starkest and most classical high-contrast pairing, the deep wine-red of Wine reading at maximum intensity against pure white.
- Pale cream or ivory Elegance® Bianco Sfumato ranunculus provides a softer warm-neutral contrast that complements the wine-red without the stark drama of pure white.
- Silver-leaved dusty miller intensifies the richness of the dark wine tones while preventing the color from absorbing into a dark background.
- Pale blush pink Elegance® Rosa ranunculus provides a romantic companion that draws out the warmer red component of the wine color while adding a gentle contrast in petal form between the doubled peony-like ranunculus and the fully doubled anemone.
- In the cutting garden, Levante® Wine and Mistral® Bordeaux planted together — both dark wine-red varieties, one fully doubled and one single open-faced — create a composition that showcases the same color in two fundamentally different bloom architectures, producing an arrangement of considerable textural sophistication from just two varieties.
Garden & Floristry Uses
- Levante® Wine is an exceptional choice for premium cut flower production, luxury bouquets, wedding work, patio containers, ornamental borders, collector gardens, and elegant cool-season landscapes.
- Its rich wine-red flowers, dramatic black center, and refined single bloom form make it one of the most sophisticated cultivars within the Levante® collection.
