Dahlia Temple of Beauty: A Painterly Mix of Rose, Peach, and Cream

Bring a living work of art to your garden with the Dahlia Temple of Beauty tuber. This bushy, upright plant grows to a height of 80–110 cm with a spread of approximately 60 cm. Its sturdy, hollow stems hold fully-double blooms, 15 cm across, with petals that sit almost flat, creating a broad, show-bench face. Each petal is a unique wash of dark rose-pink, peach, soft yellow, and cream, arranged differently on every bloom, giving the impression of a living “mixed bouquet” on a single stem. This stunning dahlia is a perfect focal point for mid- or back-of-border “paint-palette” clumps.

Dahlia Temple of Beauty is an excellent choice for statement cut flowers, with a vase life of 5–7 days. These blooms look fantastic in large patio containers, creating a spectacular show at table height. With consistent dead-heading and maintenance, you can expect to enjoy over 40 of these uniquely painterly blooms per plant throughout the long flowering season from early December through March.

Growing Calendar

  • Plant tubers: mid-September (when daytime highs are ≤ 38°C).
  • First blooms: early December.
  • Peak display: December – March.
  • Cut back / rest: early May.

Best Uses

  • Mid- or back-of-border “paint-palette” focal clumps.
  • Large patio containers (≥ 45 cm) for table-height show.
  • Statement cuts (5–7 days vase life) that look like a mixed bouquet on a single stem.

Planting & Care Guide

  • Light: Full sun ≥ 4 h; provide 30% shade cloth if temperatures exceed 40°C during establishment.
  • Soil: Deep, fertile, perfectly drained. Work 5 L of mature compost and ½ cup of crab-&-lobster shell meal into each hole.
  • Depth & spacing: Plant tuber 15 cm deep, 60 cm apart; stake at planting.
  • Water: After shoots appear, deep-soak every 3–4 days; let the top 3 cm of soil dry between irrigations.
  • Feed (Fertilizing): Monthly low-nitrogen organic bloom fertiliser (~3-6-4) until late February, then stop.
  • Maintenance: Pinch at 35 cm for extra branches; dead-head or harvest promptly to expect 40+ painterly blooms.
