Dahlia Vassio Meggos: A Velvety Lavender-Pink Tuber

Create back-of-border drama with the Dahlia Vassio Meggos tuber. This bushy, upright plant grows to a height of 100–120 cm with a spread of 60 cm. Its strong canes hold massive, broad-petalled blooms measuring 20 cm across high above the dark-green foliage. Each flower features velvety lavender-pink petals that fold gracefully back toward the stem, creating a plush pom-pon silhouette. The center petals are a deeper rosy-mauve, adding depth and a striking exhibition quality to the bloom. This dahlia is a stunning focal point for mixed beds or large patio containers.

Dahlia Vassio Meggos is also an excellent choice for exhibition blooms and short-term statement arrangements. The huge flowers have a vase life of 5–7 days, making them perfect for creating “wow-factor” displays. With consistent dead-heading and maintenance, you can expect to enjoy 30–40 of these spectacular blooms per plant throughout the long flowering season from early December through March.

Planting & Care Guide

  • Light: Full sun ≥ 4 h; set up 30% shade-cloth if temperatures exceed 40°C during establishment.
  • Soil: Deep, fertile, perfectly drained. Work 5 L of finished compost and ½ cup of crab & lobster shell meal into each hole.
  • Depth & spacing: Plant tuber 10 cm deep, 50 cm apart; insert a stake now to avoid tuber damage later.
  • Water: After shoots appear, deep-soak every 3–4 days; let the top 3 cm of soil dry between irrigations.
  • Feed (Fertilizing): Monthly low-nitrogen organic bloom fertiliser (~3-6-4) until February, then stop.
  • Maintenance: Pinch at 40 cm to increase branching; dead-head or harvest promptly to expect 30–40 huge blooms.
