Pentas lanceolata F1 Kaleidoscope Mix Seeds

(Egyptian Starflower)

Pentas lanceolata F1 Kaleidoscope Mix is part of the Kaleidoscope series — an F1 hybrid Pentas bred by Benary and developed specifically for its vigorous growth, profuse branching habit, and exceptionally large, intensely colored flower clusters. Where the Graffiti series prioritizes compactness and uniformity and BeeBright focuses on ultra-compact mounding habit, Kaleidoscope is bred for vigor, visual impact, and outstanding performance in demanding conditions including full summer heat.

Kaleidoscope Mix combines the most striking colors from the Kaleidoscope range into one balanced planting, including Appleblossom, Pink, Deep Rose, Carmine, Lilac, and Deep Red. Every color delivers the same vigorous plant habit and large cluster size, creating a diverse and richly colored display across the full growing season.
Pentas lanceolata is commonly known as Egyptian Starflower. Each flower is a precision five-pointed star, and in the Kaleidoscope series these stars are packed into large, densely filled domed clusters that are held prominently above the foliage. The larger plant scale of Kaleidoscope makes these clusters particularly impactful in landscape and border settings where a bolder, more substantial visual presence is required.

Kaleidoscope is a day-neutral plant — it flowers continuously regardless of day length. This makes Pentas lanceolata F1 Kaleidoscope Mix suitable for year-round Gulf Garden use in warm conditions. Pentas does not have a maximum temperature that inhibits growth or flowering, making it genuinely exceptional among annuals for Gulf summer performance. It is also one of the most effective butterfly and hummingbird attracting plants available, with its large, dense flower clusters providing abundant nectar across the full blooming season.

Seed Germination

  • Seed depth: Surface sow only — do NOT cover seeds
  • Germination time: 7–10 days
  • Ideal germination temperature: 23–26°C
  • Important: Pentas lanceolata Kaleidoscope seeds require light to germinate.
  • Seeds must be surface sown and left completely uncovered.
  • Maintain 95–100% humidity for the first 10 days.
  • Keep germination media consistently moist using tempered water at minimum 18°C.
  • Media temperatures below 16°C will inhibit germination and growth.

Growing Tips

  • Sow Pentas lanceolata F1 Kaleidoscope Mix seeds on the surface of a sterile, moist seed-starting mix at pH 6.2–6.5. Do not cover seeds — light increases germination rate and improves seedling uniformity.
  • Maintain 95–100% humidity and 23–26°C for the first 10 days.
  • Once cotyledons are fully expanded (around day 14), reduce temperature slightly to 22–23°C daytime and 20–21°C night for the first two weeks. As plants mature, temperatures can be lowered to 16–18°C at night and 20–23°C during the day.
  • Higher temperatures shorten crop time and benefit overall plant development.
  • Transplant when seedlings have developed 2–3 sets of true leaves.
  • Space plants 30–40 cm apart in a sunny, well-drained position with fertile soil at pH 6.2–6.5.
  • Monitor soil pH carefully — Kaleidoscope, like all Pentas, is sensitive to iron toxicity below pH 5.5 and micronutrient deficiency at higher pH levels.
  • Feed weekly with a balanced nitrogen fertilizer at 150–200 ppm, alternating between a potassium-balanced fertilizer and a calcium nitrate fertilizer.
  • Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings to support root health.
  • Deadhead spent flower clusters regularly to encourage new branching and continuous bloom production.
For landscape and border use, Kaleidoscope Mix requires no pinching as its naturally vigorous branching habit maintains itself throughout the season.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Suitable for year-round cultivation in the Gulf due to exceptional heat tolerance and day-neutral flowering.
  • Recommended main sowing periods: August–September (for autumn establishment) and February–March (for spring and summer display).
  • Transplanting: 6–8 weeks after sowing.
