- Coleus ‘Fishnet Stockings’ is a dramatic foliage variety named for the distinctive net-like pattern formed by deep burgundy-purple veins across its bright-green leaves.
- Its tall, upright growth makes it an excellent focal plant in mixed containers, where it can be used as the central “thriller.” It is equally effective in shaded garden beds or as a colorful indoor plant.
- The strongest purple veining generally appears on the newest foliage. Pinching the growing tips encourages additional branches, producing a fuller plant with more of its characteristic patterned leaves.
- Although classified as heat tolerant, this does not mean it can tolerate Kuwait’s direct summer sun.
Growing in Kuwait
- Outdoor growing season: Autumn through spring
- Indoor growing: Suitable year-round in bright filtered light
- Light outdoors: Morning sun, high shade or bright partial shade
- Summer protection: Move indoors or to a cooled, heavily shaded area
- Soil: Light, fertile and well-drained potting mix
- Watering: Water when the upper 2–3 cm of the growing medium begins to dry
- Pinching: Pinch regularly to promote branching and control height
- Feeding: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at a mild concentration during active growth
- Flower spikes: May be removed to maintain foliage production and a compact appearance
- Avoid intense midday and afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Very low light may also weaken the plant and reduce the contrast between the green foliage and purple veins.
