- The plant produces short vines of approximately one meter, making it particularly suitable for raised beds, smaller gardens and large containers. Its attractive orange fruits generally weigh around 1–1.5 kg, providing a practical household size that is easy to harvest, store and use in the kitchen.
- The flesh is rich, aromatic and excellent for roasting, soups, baking and purées. Like other Hokkaido-type pumpkins, its relatively thin skin becomes tender when cooked and does not normally need to be removed.
Growing in Kuwait
- Grow ‘Zora F1’ during Kuwait’s cooler agricultural season after the extreme summer heat has declined.
- Recommended planting period: September to November
- Sunlight: Full sun during the cooler months
- Plant spacing: Approximately 1 × 1 meter
- Container growing: Use one plant per large container, preferably at least 50–70 liters
- Soil: Fertile, rich in organic matter and well-drained
- Watering: Water deeply and consistently without waterlogging the soil
- Feeding: Feed regularly after establishment, flowering and fruit development
- Pollination: Bee access is important; growing more than one pumpkin plant nearby may improve pollination and fruit set
- When transplanting, keep the root ball completely intact. Pumpkin seedlings are sensitive to root disturbance, which can temporarily slow their establishment and growth.
Harvesting
- Harvest when the fruit develops its full orange color, the rind becomes firm and the fruit stem begins to dry and turn corky. Cut the fruit with a short section of stem attached.
- Please note: Fruit weight, vine length, maturity time and yield may vary according to temperature, container size, soil fertility, irrigation and pollination.
