Ranunculus Asiaticus Maché Chocolate
2,500 KWD
Ranunculus Asiaticus Maché Chocolate is a vigorous F1 Persian buttercup from Syngenta’s premium Maché series — larger, bolder, and more productive than the Bloomingdale series, producing fully double, multi-layered blooms in a rich velvety bronze-brown with red and copper undertones that is among the most sought-after and commercially distinctive colors in the global cut flower trade. Large, fully double flowers in appealing colors with strong, sturdy flower stems make this series exceptionally well suited for premium segment containers and cut flower production.

Ranunculus Asiaticus Maché Chocolate Seeds
(Ranunculus asiaticus — Maché Series — Syngenta)
Ranunculus asiaticus ‘Maché Chocolate’ belongs to Syngenta’s Maché series — the vigorous, large-flowered premium line in Syngenta’s ranunculus portfolio, positioned above the compact Magic series for growers who want maximum flower size, stem strength, and visual impact. The Maché series produces large, fully double flowers in appealing colors with easy management, high uniformity, and strong sturdy stems. The vigor of the series makes it exceptionally well suited for the premium segment, larger pots, and containers.
The Chocolate color in the Maché range occupies a uniquely prestigious position in the ornamental world. Rich, deep chocolate brown with subtle red undertones — an earthy, warm color that makes it one of the most universally admired ranunculus tones. The velvety bronze, copper, red, and chocolatey brown tones are rich and sumptuous, with each bloom a dense globe of tissue-thin petals layered in concentric rings that deepen towards the center. True chocolate-brown is exceptionally rare in the flower world — roses, peonies, and dahlias have all yielded versions of this tone, but none captures it as convincingly as ranunculus, where the translucency of the petals allows light to pass through the layers and create a warm, luminous glow that amplifies the depth of the brown.
The Maché series is vigorous in habit, recommended for 12–14 cm pots and larger containers, and requires full sun with optimal average daily temperatures of 10–12°C for best performance. The combination of vigorous growth, large flower size, and strong stems makes Maché Chocolate the natural choice for cut flower production as well as premium ornamental container use.
Important safety note: all parts of the ranunculus plant are poisonous if ingested, and handling may cause skin irritation or allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.

Germination Instructions
- Maché Chocolate requires cool conditions to germinate reliably — the same cold-temperature requirement that applies to all
- Ranunculus asiaticus seed varieties.
- Optimal germination temperature is 10–15°C with germination in 7–10 days under these conditions.
- Surface sow pelleted seeds individually into a well-drained seed compost, one seed per cell in a deep-cell tray.
- Cover with a very light sprinkling of fine compost or vermiculite.
- Keep consistently moist throughout germination — do not allow the pellet to dry out as moisture is needed to dissolve the coating before the seed can germinate.
- The substrate should have a coarse structure with good air flow, and a pH in the range of 5.5–6.5.
- For Kuwait: ambient outdoor temperatures in September and October are far too high for reliable ranunculus germination.
- Place sown trays in the refrigerator vegetable drawer at 8–12°C for 2–3 weeks, then move to a cool indoor location.
- Once seedlings have developed 3–4 sets of true leaves they are ready for transplanting to their final outdoor position when temperatures drop below 25°C in late October to November.
Growing Tips
- Ranunculus needs as much light as possible.
- Keep soil moisture level consistently adequate — it is critical not to let the plant dry out during the growing period as drying stops plant growth.
- For the home grower in Kuwait, to grow in full sun, water regularly at soil level, never overhead, and incorporate generous organic matter into the planting bed or container mix before planting.
- Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks throughout the growing season.
- The main pests to watch for are aphids, thrips, spider mites, leaf miners, and whitefly.
- The main diseases are botrytis, powdery mildew, and pythium.
- Botrytis is the most significant risk — ensure good air circulation between plants and avoid wetting the foliage or flowers.
- For cut flower harvest, cut when buds are colored and soft — the marshmallow stage — allowing them to open fully in the vase for maximum vase life.
- Place cut stems immediately into clean cool water.
- Change vase water every 2–3 days.
Gulf Planting Season
- Refrigerator pre-chilling of sown trays (8–12°C): September 2–3 weeks
- Germination indoors in cool conditions: October
- Transplant outdoors: late October to November
- Peak flowering season: December to March
- Note: The Maché series blooms earlier than standard ranunculus series — in Kuwait’s cool season this means Maché Chocolate can begin flowering from December onward, approximately two weeks ahead of Bloomingdale varieties sown at the same time.
- This earlier flowering window is commercially significant for anyone growing for the Kuwaiti winter events and wedding season.
- Do not transplant outdoors until daytime temperatures are consistently below 25°C.
Garden & Floral Uses
- Maché Chocolate is the premium-grade ranunculus for Kuwait’s cool-season garden and cut flower production.
- Ideal for 1 qt. and larger premium containers, the vigorous plants with brightly colored, fully double flowers are easy to grow and manage with strong uniformity.
- In cut flower arrangements the chocolate-brown blooms pair with extraordinary versatility — perfect for bouquets, vase arrangements, wedding designs, and adding a refined touch to both classic and modern arrangements.
- The combination of white lisianthus, cream stock, and Maché Chocolate ranunculus is one of the most sophisticated warm-neutral arrangements available from a Kuwait cool-season cutting garden.
- For bolder arrangements, pair with deep burgundy anemone, dusty miller, and eucalyptus-type silver foliage.
- The 7–10-day vase life — extending to two weeks with optimal care — makes Maché Chocolate one of the best performing cut flowers available from a home-grown source throughout the Gulf winter season.
