Ranunculus Asiaticus Magic Pink & Peach Seeds

(Ranunculus asiaticus — Magic Series — Syngenta)

Ranunculus asiaticus ‘Magic Pink & Peach’ belongs to Syngenta’s Magic series — the genetically compact, naturally dwarf line in Syngenta’s ranunculus portfolio. Where the Maché series is vigorous and bred for larger containers and premium cut flower production, Magic is bred for compactness and ease: genetically compact habit requires no PGRs and is ideal for small containers. Tidy plants are easy to grow and ship at high densities — irresistible flowers on plants perfectly sized to stimulate early season impulse sales.

Magic Pink & Peach is an ultimate impulse item due to its alluring color in shades of pink and peach. Dwarf plants produce eye-catching, fully double flowers of 6–9 cm that are simply extraordinary — naturally and uniquely compact, with an upright habit that does not require PGRs. Perfect for beds and retail sales in small gift pots. Easy to grow and ships well.

The Pink & Peach color combination is among the most commercially appealing in the ranunculus palette — a bicolor selection that spans two adjacent warm tones rather than a single color, so individual blooms vary naturally between more-pink and more-peach expressions within the same planting. The pastel shades shift subtly as the blooms mature, creating depth and variation across each plant. This natural variation within a single named color selection is one of the defining aesthetic pleasures of ranunculus, and the Pink & Peach combination expresses it in its most harmonious form — warm without being garish, romantic without being saccharine.

The key distinction between Magic and Maché is size and intended use. Magic is bred to stay small without chemical intervention — Magic is the compact series recommended for 10.5–12 cm pots, while Maché is the vigorous series for 12–14 cm and larger containers. For the home grower in Kuwait who wants a neat, well-behaved pot plant or front-of-border edging plant that delivers exceptional flower quality from a minimal footprint, Magic Pink & Peach is the correct choice. For someone wanting tall-stemmed cut flowers or large premium container statements, Maché is the appropriate selection.

Germination Instructions

  • Magic Pink & Peach requires the same cool germination conditions as all Ranunculus asiaticus varieties.
  • Optimal germination temperature is 10–15°C with germination in 7–10 days.
  • Sow pelleted seeds individually into a well-drained seed compost at a depth of no more than 5 mm, one seed per cell in a deep-cell tray.
  • Cover lightly with fine compost or vermiculite and keep consistently moist — do not allow the pellet to dry out as moisture dissolves the coating before the seed can germinate.
  • Use a substrate with a coarse structure, good air flow, and a pH in the range of 5.5–6.5.
  • After germination, grow seedlings on in cool indoor conditions at 13–15°C with good light and ventilation until ready for outdoor transplanting.
  • For Kuwait: place sown trays in the refrigerator vegetable drawer at 8–12°C for 2–3 weeks in September, then move to a cool indoor location for germination.
  • Once seedlings have developed 3–4 sets of true leaves, transplant to their final outdoor position when temperatures drop below 25°C in late October to November.

Growing Tips

  • Magic Pink & Peach is the easiest ranunculus in the Syngenta range to manage.
  • Very compact with no growth regulators needed, suitable for smaller pots and packs, with large flowers on short stems that are easy to transport.
  • Grow in full sun to part shade in fertile, well-drained soil or compost with a pH of 5.5–6.5. Water consistently at soil level — never overhead — keeping the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.
  • The compact genetic habit means plants will not stretch or flop even in the warmest parts of the Gulf cool season, making them more forgiving than Maché in variable temperature conditions.
  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks.
  • Monitor for aphids, thrips, spider mites, and botrytis — ensure good air circulation and avoid wetting foliage or flowers.
  • For cut flower use, harvest at the marshmallow stage — when buds are fully coloured and soft but not yet open — and place immediately into clean cool water. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season.

Gulf Planting Season

  • Refrigerator pre-chilling of sown trays (8–12°C): September 2–3 weeks
  • Germination indoors in cool conditions: October
  • Transplant outdoors: late October to November
  • Peak flowering season: December to March
  • Note: Magic Pink & Peach is the most compact and container-friendly ranunculus in this catalogue — its genetically dwarf habit makes it the natural choice for Kuwait’s balcony gardens, window boxes, and small raised bed edging where space is limited.
  • The absence of any PGR requirement simplifies management significantly for the home grower.
  • Like all ranunculus, it will not perform in temperatures above 25°C and must be germinated in cool indoor conditions in September.
  • Plants will die back naturally as temperatures rise in March–April, completing the cool-season cycle.

Garden & Floral Uses

  • Magic Pink & Peach is primarily a pot plant and front-of-border ornamental that also functions as a short-stemmed cut flower.
  • The combination of alluring pink and peach tones with an irresistible compact habit makes it a perfect early-season impulse purchase and gift pot plant.
  • In the garden, it’s neat 15–25 cm mounding habit makes it ideal for the front edge of raised beds, small containers on windowsills and balconies, and mixed cool-season pot combinations alongside pansy, lobelia, and alyssum.
  • The peach-to-pink color range harmonizes naturally with the warm tones of Maché Chocolate, cream stock, white anemone, and blush lisianthus — making it an effective companion plant in mixed ornamental container schemes as well as a stand-alone specimen pot.
  • As a cut flower, the short stems suit low, dome-shaped centerpiece arrangements and bud vases where the full face of the double bloom can be appreciated at close range.
  • The natural variation in tone between peach and pink blooms on a single plant ensures that even a small bunch of five or six stems carries enough color diversity to read as a complete arrangement in its own right.
