Growing in Kuwait
- For the best results in Kuwait, transplant seedlings from late September through November.
- Choose a location with:
- Six to eight hours of sunlight during the cooler months
- Fertile, well-draining soil
- Regular and consistent watering
- Protection from strong wind
- Afternoon shade as temperatures becomes intense
- A stake or vegetable cage to support the fruiting branches
- Space plants approximately 45–60 cm apart. For container growing, place one plant in a pot of at least 30 liters.
- White eggplants may show sunscald or yellowing more visibly than dark-purple varieties. Maintain a healthy leaf canopy and provide afternoon protection when sunlight and temperatures become severe.
Harvesting
- Harvest White Moon fruits while their skin is:
- Glossy and ivory-white
- Smooth and tender
- Firm but not hard
- Approximately 12–18 cm long
- Do not wait until the skin becomes dull or develops a strong yellow color. This indicates over maturity and usually results in tougher flesh and more developed seeds. A commercial plant catalogue similarly advises harvesting White Moon while its skin remains light and glossy.
- Regular harvesting encourages the plant to continue flowering and producing.
Culinary Uses
- White Moon’s creamy texture and mild flavor make it suitable for:
- Grilling and barbecuing
- Roasting
- Frying
- Stuffing
- Eggplant Parmesan
- Moussaka
- Curries and stews
- Baba ghanoush
- Stir-fries
- Its white skin is edible when the fruit is harvested young and tender.
