Dahlia Imperialis White: Towering White Tuber with Graceful Blooms

Create an unforgettable architectural statement in your garden with the Dahlia Imperialis white tuber. This commanding specimen grows to a magnificent height of 2–3 m with a spread of 1–1.25 m. It features striking bamboo-like hollow stems and bold, pinnate leaves, giving it a commanding tropical presence. Atop these stems, graceful, lightly ruffled single to semi-double blooms emerge. Measuring 10–12 cm, the pure-white petals hang like bells around a golden-orange disc, forming stunning panicles of 30+ blooms high above the foliage. This variety is slightly less vigorous than the pink type, but it still provides a spectacular show.

Dahlia Imperialis white is an ideal centerpiece for a sheltered courtyard or tropical-look borders alongside plants like bananas and palms. Its sky-high winter cuts are perfect for creating dramatic floral arrangements for hotel lobbies and event décor. With proper support, this tuber will provide a spectacular, snowy display throughout the cooler months.

Planting & Care Guide

  • Soil: Dig 50 cm deep; incorporate 10 L of well-rotted compost and 1 cup of blood/fish/bone per plant.
  • Depth & spacing: Lay tuber horizontally 6 cm deep, 1 m apart; firm soil and water 1 L at planting.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist for the first 6 weeks, then deep-soak weekly; increase to twice weekly in midsummer heat.
  • Feed (Fertilizing): Side-dress with an organic 5-5-5 fertiliser every 6 weeks until September.
  • Support: Drive a 3 m stake or lash stems to a pergola or wall as they elongate to prevent wind-snap.
  • Maintenance: Pinch side shoots at 1 m if you desire fewer, sturdier canes; otherwise, let it tower naturally.
