- Arizona Apricot produces warm apricot-orange flowers edged with golden yellow, while Arizona Red Shades produces rich crimson-red blooms, sometimes with delicate golden tips. Because the seedlings are offered before flowering, the final color cannot be selected or guaranteed.
- This early-flowering series forms compact, well-branched plants that can bloom in their first year from seed. Its large, daisy-like flowers appear over a long season and attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.
- Its manageable size makes it ideal for containers, sunny borders, rock gardens and mass planting.
Growing in Kuwait
- For Kuwait, transplant Gaillardia from October through February, with autumn and early winter planting providing the longest flowering period.
Provide: - – Full sun during the cooler months
- – Light, fast-draining soil
- – Moderate watering while the plant establishes
- – Good air circulation
- – Protection from waterlogged soil
- – Light afternoon shade when temperatures begin rising
- Although Gaillardia is known for heat and drought tolerance, this does not mean a young plant or a container-grown specimen should be allowed to dry completely. Allow the upper layer of soil to begin drying before watering again.
- Avoid excessively rich soil and heavy nitrogen feeding, as these can produce weak, leafy growth with fewer flowers.
Flowering and Maintenance
- – Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage additional buds.
- – Cut flower stems back to healthy foliage rather than removing only the flower head.
- – Avoid keeping the crown constantly wet.
- – Leave a few final seed heads if you want to provide food for birds or collect seeds.
- The Arizona Series is capable of flowering in its first year and produces large flowers on compact plants.
