Growing Strawberry ‘Tristan’ F1 in Kuwait

  • Grow ‘Tristan’ during Kuwait’s cooler agricultural season. Seedlings can be planted outdoors from late September or October through February, once severe summer temperatures have declined.
  • Choose a location receiving approximately 6 hours of direct sunlight during the cooler months. Morning sun is preferable as temperatures rise in spring, with afternoon protection helping to preserve flowers, fruit and foliage.
  • Plant in fertile, well-drained soil and keep the root crown level with the soil surface. Do not bury the crown, as this increases the risk of crown rot. Maintain even soil moisture without leaving the roots waterlogged.
  • For container growing, use a pot with good drainage holes and a diameter of at least 20–25 cm for one plant. Apply a light, balanced fertilizer during establishment, then change to a fertilizer suitable for flowering and fruiting plants once buds appear.
  • Pollinating insects can improve fruit formation. Where plants are grown inside a screened greenhouse with limited insect access, gently move a soft brush between open flowers.
  • ‘Tristan’ should not be marketed as a summer strawberry for exposed Kuwaiti conditions. Flowering and fruit quality will decline under extreme heat, so plants require protection or relocation before summer.
